PERSONAL STATEMENT
Born in 1952 in Maidstone, Kent, Peter is a figurative painter working mainly in oils. However, as an artist, he finds it difficult to discuss and especially to attempt an explanation of his paintings. The paintings should speak for themselves. They all form a part of an ongoing evolution and exploration through ideas, images and medium. It can be difficult to say exactly where inspiration comes from as it can arrive in a variety of forms. For example, he will look for inspiration through links with people, contemporary situations, natural structures and materials etc. Possibly not so much as for inspiration, but probably more for support.
Although a modern artist who constantly explores contextual themes and contemporary boundries, the influence of artists such as Degas, Manet, Lautrec, and the Pre-Raphaelites are felt in Peter's work. The work attempts to assume a vivid presence by capturing the fleeting moment of some drama, past, present or future.
