«I like to be different»

Nena Stojanovic is a Fine Artist. Her father an engineer, a painter, and a wood craftsman. Nena grew up being amazed by the art created around her.

The arts existed in the lives of many in her family circles, always feeding and influencing her growth and development as an artist.

When at school, this was evident as her curiosity urged her to be the best in her classes.

She was always involved in the arts and her artwork was always featured in displays.

And outside art was gymnastics, where Nena collected 10 medals, a broken tooth, and what became an interest in occupations with the dental industry.

Just prior to the year 2000, Nena left her homeland - Serbia for an adventure in Greece, where she has been living the last 15 years.

In her first years in Greece her art involved experimentation with different media, including stones, pebbles, glass, carpet, seashells, etc.

As she progressed in her explorations of textures, sights, and colors, she began to introduce paint and wood.

Those first years in Greece were very difficult for Nena. Among her different occupations to make ends meet, her first years included her being a carpenter, and a furniture painter, among other things.

These experiences also shaped her and fed her creative experiences, allowing her to experiment more with her art.

Her style is very unique and technically challenging, and her form of expression is one that comes naturally.

She explains her technique and art as painting on wood with water-based alkyd enamel paint «A gloss oil paint" for wood and metal surfaces.

"It's very difficult to paint with that kind of paint because it dries very quickly and they are a very fluid liquid.

The wood I use is MDF (veneer and naked) in profile 0.7/0.8/0.9 mm and 1cm thick. As a wood product it is not ready for paint.

Her materials preparation includes: installation of special metal hooks a good rub-down with sandpaper to finish the wood and cut-edges after cleaning the dust, a water-based paint primer (enamel wood) is used then the main painting is done with enamel paint this is left to dry very well before treating the back and sides in the same way Nena says, "It is a difficult way to make a painting, but the glossy oil paint gives the painting such a special shine and vitality and wood is a material that provides great potential for creativity.

I also chose this kind of art because I have not seen it in existence before.

«I like to be different» Now happily married, a mother of two beautiful children, Nena is a practicing dental technician, and pursues her art in the time she has in between her busy roles.
